Importing and Exporting Stage Screens in ProPresenter 7 by Using Themes

Uncategorized Feb 15, 2023

ProPresenter doesn't have a button for this, and the information is hard to find online. I looked for a while before I worked it out.

The trick is that you move stage screens through themes. There's no direct stage screen export. You copy the elements into a theme, export that, and unpack it on the other end.

Importing a stage screen

Go to File, then Import, and select the theme. Mine's called "Stage Screen Template." Once it's in, it shows up in your theme list.

Now get it out of the theme and into the stage editor:

  1. Select the imported theme and click Edit.
  2. Select everything on the screen and hit Command+C.
  3. Go to the stage editor, make a new blank stage screen, and Command+V.

That's it. Everything comes across.

Making it your default

  1. Go to Screens, then Stage Screen 1.
  2. Pick your new stage screen. Rename it from "Blank" to something you'll recognize in six months.

Exporting a stage screen

Same process in reverse. Useful when you're moving to a new machine, setting up a second one, or sending your layout to another church.

  1. In the stage editor, select everything on the stage screen and Command+C.
  2. Go to the theme editor, create a new theme, delete the default text layer.
  3. Paste your elements in.
  4. File, Export, Export Themes. Deselect everything except the one you just made, then export.

What's on our stage screen

The one I built has:

  • Chord charts synced with MultiTracks, so the person on stage sees exactly where they are in the song
  • Current and next slide text
  • Time, current playlist item, and next playlist item

That last group is the one worth copying. Your worship leader knowing what's coming next without turning around removes a whole category of Sunday morning confusion.

The template's free. You'll find it on the free resources page.

If you want stage screens built and ready instead of building your own, the ProPresenter Template Pack has lyric themes, sermon layouts, and stage screen layouts for band, sermon, announcement and operator, straight out of our real Sunday setup.

And the ProPresenter 7 Quickstart Guide covers screens, playlists and macros properly if you're training a team on all of it.
