How to Record Quick Screen Tutorials for Church Volunteers on a Mac

Uncategorized Feb 10, 2026

I used to avoid making tutorials for my team anytime it meant recording my screen. The Mac screen recorder felt clunky and confusing to me, and half the time the audio didn't capture.

So I'd record my screen with my phone like a caveman, or I'd skip the tutorial altogether. That's a bad move when you're trying to train church volunteers.

Why your volunteers need tutorial videos

Your volunteers need to know how to run ProPresenter. They need to know how to record the service. They need to know how you set up the live stream for Sunday.

A quick tutorial video they can watch covers each of those. Most people don't make them, because recording tutorials feels hard.

The screen recorder I use: CleanShot

CleanShot is what changed this for me. Now I can knock out a screen-recording tutorial in five minutes, with no editing and no fancy software. I hit record and talk through the steps.

I've used it since 2021. It cost me $29 one time when I bought it, with no subscription and no monthly fees.

Here's what it does:

  • Records my screen
  • Adds my webcam in the corner if I want it
  • Captures my mic
  • Shows my mouse clicks so people can follow along

If you're on a Mac and you're tired of janky screen recordings, CleanShot is the one I'd point you to. That's an affiliate link, so I get a small kickback at no extra cost to you.

How I record a volunteer tutorial without losing an afternoon

  1. Write out the steps first. I don't wing it. Winging it is how you end up rambling and forgetting half the process.
  2. Open the checklist.
  3. Open CleanShot.
  4. Hit record.

I talk through the steps like I'm explaining them to someone standing next to me. I do it in one take, with no edits.

When I'm done, I trim the beginning and end if I want to. Then I drop the video in Notion or Google Drive. There's no timeline to build and no fancy cuts to make, so there's no wasted time.

What changes once the videos exist

When a new volunteer joins your team, you send them the video instead of training them yourself. They watch it and learn the process.

And you get your Sunday morning (or weekday night) back.

Common questions

What's a good screen recorder for church volunteer tutorials on a Mac?

I use CleanShot. It records the screen, adds your webcam in the corner if you want it, captures your mic, and shows mouse clicks so people can follow along.

Do I need to edit tutorial videos for my volunteers?

No. I record in one take and trim the beginning and end if I want to. That's the finished video.

How long does it take to make a volunteer tutorial?

About five minutes for me. Writing out the steps before I hit record keeps it from turning into a long, rambling video.

Where should I keep tutorial videos for my team?

I drop mine in Notion or Google Drive, then send the video to new volunteers when they join the team.
